Screen Testest

This blog contains the screen test of actors that might be use for our music video, component 3. The content of this screen test was done by me (Tisha) while the videos were edited by Kimora. 

What is a screen test? 

As screen test are mostly use in order for directors to be able to see different actors performing a role that is needed. This screen test has a purpose as it allows to see actors perform and see whether they are the right match or not.

For this project we decided to make a screen test that shows several people we think would be good and fits the criteria of our artist. The video below is our screen test of the people we ask to lip sync following the song, this was done to see people's confidence on screen and body gestures.

Even though we needed to find our artist, we also need to find a guy that would fit the artist style as the person will need to be the artist lover. So we decided to ask several of our friends who were boys to say the line that the character will say which is "is this seat taken?".

Throughout these shoot, each member has their own role during the shoot. Where Cassie is in charge for helping Kellie in wardrobe to follow our moodboard as well as Cassie helps in bringing props. Kimora is in charge for props as well and she helps in test filming before the shot to see the perfect location. Kellie has a role in being the actor in which she needed to remember the lyrics as well as in most of the music video it is shot in a POV perspective which means Kellie needs to also use camera to film as well.

Location Scout and Risk Assessment

This blog contains the location scout and risk assessment of the music video component 3 project. This blog was made by Kimora but I (Tisha) help with adding the events in the scene explanation also with the some of the location scout.

Before we start 

                                 Location 1: Record Cafe – Analogue Listening Space & Vinyl Cafe

Record Cafe – Analogue Listening Space & Vinyl Cafe

Events in scene:	What will happen?  In this location this is when the first scene and the last scene will happen. Where the first scene shows both the artist and another character that plays as the artist's partner will have their first interaction meeting each other. Where the last scene will be showing both the artist and the partner spending time and getting to know each other.
Pros of location:	This location has the feeling that we are going for, especially:  Vintage props in the location; the black sofa and wooden chair help emphasize the old vintage feeling.  Good lighting; with good lighting it would be easier for us to do simple lighting edit to match with the aesthetic we want to do.
Cons of location:	This location is known to be hidden gem; but we know this place from our friend in which:  Public space; the place may have other people that will be there using the place as it is a public space, in which we might need to ask permission from everybody who will be present in the background which can take a long time to get their consent.
Alternatives:	What other locations can you shoot at if there are issues here? To follow the same aesthetic of record cafe that we want to do, alternative places would be:  Vinyl Coffee Bar Old Friends Coffee at Kj House Records
Risk Assessment
Potential hazards:	What dangers are there? Cables on the floor may cause tripping Electrical hazards from plugs or cables Risk of disturbing other customers in the cafe Limited space which could lead to accidents while filming Waitress working, which we might not see when we are filming so we could bump into them
Evaluate risks:	What bad things could happen? Team members or actors could trip on cables Minor electric shock if cables are not safely organized Noise interference from customers could affect the audio quality  Equipments or cafe property could get damaged if drinks spill
Control measures:	How will you prevent these from happening? Avoid areas with a lot of cables and if there are cables, it should be placed or set aside properly to clear out the area for recording.  Keep drinks and food away from the filming equipment to reduce chances of broken equipment. Inform cafe staff that we will be recording in a certain area so they would not try to serve us during the shoot.
Responsibility:	Who will be in charge of the control measures? Team members - we will make sure before shooting our scene we will do a location check before we start such as:  Making sure all cables are placed neatly Creating a clear and organized filming area  Informing cafe staff that we will be recording in order to gain permission Team members that are available will also monitor the space during filming to prevent accidents.  Testing equipment such as microphones before filming to ensure that the background noise does not affect the audio quality, as well as camera to ensure good lighting so we would not need to do the shoot twice.
Time frame:	When will you have the control measure in place? All control measures will be controlled and set up before filming begins on the day of the shoot. Once we arrive, we will monitor the area and try to organize cables and test the audio quality to ensure that the filming area is safe and clear.

Events in scene:	What will happen?  In this location it would be used to show one of the artist's date locations with the partner in the music video to show their connection and also builds connection between the artist and the music video aesthetic. Here they will be having interactions such as talking, running around and looking at the sea.
Pros of location:	This location has the feeling that we are going for, especially:  Overall location setting; this place has both a park and a cliffside overlooking the beach. It makes it more efficient for us to film making it look like the artist is in two different locations with two different feelings to it.  Away from the crowds; as this location is sort of a hidden gem which means that not a lot of people have come to the place in which this would be good for our filming where there won't be any background characters
Cons of location:	As this location is outside, there are several things that can be bad for our shoot like:  Weather Condition; it may be windy and it could affect the audio quality if we plan to add natural sound or dialogue. Especially as the weather recently has been bad as there is rain that happens almost every day.  Location Setting; uneven ground may make it difficult to place props or equipment. There is also limited shade with no facilities for resting and to protect ourselves from unexpected weather conditions like a very hot day and rain. when we do get tired from shooting and  Charging; with this place being outside this could mean there will especially be no place to charge our equipment if it dies.
Alternatives:	What other locations can you shoot at if there are issues here? Melasti beach  Pandawa beach
Risk Assessment
Potential hazards:	What dangers are there? There aren’t railings or safety signs on the cliffside  Strong wind  Uneven ground It may rain since its currently Bali’s rainy season
Evaluate risks:	What bad things could happen? Team members or actors could slip or fall  Props or equipment could be damaged by wind or sand Props or equipment can be damaged by the rain It can cause poor audio quality caused by the wind
Control measures:	How will you prevent these from happening? Keep a safe distance from the cliff edge Use weights to stabilize tripods or camera Attach microphones to actors Check the weather and wind conditions before filming
Responsibility:	Who will be in charge of the control measures? Team members - we will make sure before shooting our scene we will do a location check before we start such as:  set up safety boundaries check the equipment stability check the weather forecast check the microphones to see if the audio quality is not affected by the wind.
Time frame:	When will you have the control measures in place by? All safety and audio control measures should be completed before the filming starts and the weather check must be checked a day before the shoot.

                                                           Location 3: Seminyak Beach

Events in scene:	What will happen? In this location the beach will be used to show a closer connection between the artist and the partner, such as activities like; walking along the beach, talking while the sunset is shown in the background, and they could play in the water. This scene will be shown at the last chorus to give a good ending effect of the ‘day dream’ we are going for.
Pros of location:	This location is different than the other beach that we will go as it has several pros such as:  Good scenery; Seminyak beach is well known for its sunset views, so it will be great to incorporate this to our music video, and it also aligns with our moodboard. Natural lighting; the natural light from the sunset can match the music video’s moodboard and aesthetic, this would also mean that we won't have to add extra lighting and bring more equipment.
Cons of location:	This location is known for a tourist destination in which:  Public space; it can be crowded during the sunset hours making it more difficult to film without people passing by or disturbing the filming process. Weather Condition; It can be very windy, so the props or the actor’s hair can be blown away, which would lead to doing multiple re-takes.
Alternatives:	What other locations can you shoot at if there are issues here? Kuta beach Sanur beach
Risk Assessment
Potential hazards:	What dangers are there? Waves could come unexpectedly and get the equipment or props wet Strong wind could affect the audio quality or blow away the props or equipment Rocks or uneven sand could cause someone to slip or fall Crowds or tourists may accidently walk into the filming area It can possibly rain due to the rainy season
Evaluate risks:	What bad things could happen? Equipment or props could be damaged by water, sand or wind Team members or actors could slip or fall Poor audio quality can be caused by wind Disruption or delays caused by people entering the filming area The sunset can be blocked due to the rain or dark clouds
Control measures:	How will you prevent these from happening? Check the tide and weather forecast a day before filming Find a less crowded area to film Find an area with smaller waves and steady ground
Responsibility:	Who will be in charge of the control measures? Team members - we will make sure before shooting our scene we will do a location check before we start such as:  check the weather and tide forecasts a day before the shoot test the microphones for the audio quality avoid areas with bigger waves and rocks find an area with less crowds
Time frame:	When will you have the control measures in place by? All control measures will be prepared before the filming starts on the day of the shoot. Once we arrive, we will find an area with smaller waves and we will also test the audio quality

Events in scene:	What will happen? In this location it would be used to show one of the artist's date locations with the partner in the music video to show their connection and also builds connection between the artist and the music video aesthetic. Here they will be having interactions such as talking and walking their dog.
Pros of location:	This location will be another park that we wanted to do but it has its advantages like:  Location; the location is quite near to where our team members and actors live, so it can be very easy to access and if we need reshooting we can do it easily. The park allows visitors to bring pets, which allows us to follow our plan of filming the artist walking her dog with her partner
Cons of location:	Even though this location will be a good place to shoot but there are several setbacks we need to consider such as; Constructions; there are currently constructions for the jogging tracks which limits our accessibility in filming in different areas of the park Public Place; it can be very crowded during peak hours, which makes it difficult for us when we need a shot of the artist alone without people interfering in the scene Weather Condition; it will be very hot during less busy hours, actors can be sweaty when filming during these hours which can reduce the appeal of the artist’s appearance and the overall music video Noise Surrounding; It can be noisy as it is next to the main road, so it will be difficult to obtain good audio quality for our scenes.
Alternatives:	What other locations can you shoot at if there are issues here? Lumintang park Puputan park
Risk Assessment
Potential hazards:	What dangers are there? Uneven grass or walking areas, some jogging tracks are under construction There are many people cycling or skating during busy hours  It can potentially rain
Evaluate risks:	What bad things could happen? Team members or actors can trip or get injured from the uneven grass or walking areas Team members or actors could bump or crash into people cycling or skating We won't be able to film if it rains
Control measures:	How will you prevent these from happening? Try to film during less busy hours Find areas in the park where there are no construction Check the weather forecast a day before the shoot
Responsibility:	Who will be in charge of the control measures? Team members - we will make sure before shooting our scene we will do a location check before we start such as:  Check for areas with safe pathways and no constructions Check the weather forecast a day before the shoot Find a less crowded area to film
Time frame:	When will you have the control measures in place by? Some control measures like checking the safety of the park and finding less crowded areas will be done as soon as we reach the destination while for checking the weather, it will be checked a day before the shoot.

Events in scene:	What will happen? In this location it would be used to show one of the artist's date locations. Here they will be having interactions such as walking around the market, talking and buying food or souvenirs from the markets. Some short POV digicam scene being shoot here as well.
Pros of location:	This will be the only market place that we choice to use because;  Free; there is no entry fee, so we will not spend money for this scene excluding personal expenses.  Location; there is an indoor area, so we can still film if it rains and it’'s easy for our team members and actors to access this place since its near to where they live Cheap; food and souvenirs are cheap and affordable so when we need to use some food for the scene we will not need to spend too much.
Cons of location:	Especially as this market is quite known by people, this may be a challenge because:  Public Space; it can be crowded during busy hours, making it difficult to film. Location; the food stalls are mostly outdoors, so it can potentially rain so we may not be able to shoot if this happens. Disruption; as we will be shooting it can potentially disturb the customers or visitors. Background Noise; the background noise of the busy market can affect the audio quality.
Alternatives:	What other locations can you shoot at if there are issues here? Ubud market Kuta market
Risk Assessment
Potential hazards:	What dangers are there? it can potentially rain due to the rainy season that has been happening this past couple of days narrow / crowded pathways  heat and humidity
Evaluate risks:	What bad things could happen? we won't be able to film if it rains we can potentially bump or trip in narrow or crowded pathways it will be difficult to film in crowded areas, we would have to do multiple re-takes if there are many interference from other people the heat can cause the actors to sweat which can affect their appearance and appeal
Control measures:	How will you prevent these from happening? film during less busy hours or less busy days of the week check the weather forecast a day before filming film in open areas with larger space bring portable fans incase if it gets hot while filming
Responsibility:	Who will be in charge of the control measures? Team members - we will make sure before shooting our scene we will do a location check before we start such as:  check the weather forecast a day before the shoot check for less crowded areas to film ask food stalls for consent to film
Time frame:	When will you have the control measures in place by? to check the weather, we will check a day before the shoot, and for the other control measures, we will check and find a place to film as soon as we reach the location
Other notes:

Reflection: Searching for the location that we want to do our music video in was a challenge as we had to think about several pros and cons of the location and we also had to think about whether it is realistically possible to do with the short amount of deadline to film with the actors. So we made two different categories where one location is far but has the aesthetic that we want and another category is a location that is rather closer to where we live so we can record easily. The problems that we had to deal with was whether the location would be realistic or not but we decided to just put the location in for now and we will go the the further location first then we will record to the location that is closer to us. Especially with the weather condition the past couple of days we were very afraid when we will shoot it will start raining so we decided to plan backups like bringing umbrella and try to make our places to be a more indoor location.
